And when you sell at a profit, it has to be declared: work out what you pay in Spanish income tax using the FIFO method the tax office requires. And if you hold more than €50,000 on platforms outside Spain, you also have to file form 721, which is informational and costs nothing.

More about Stellar

What is Stellar

Stellar trades under the ticker XLM and ranks #20 by market capitalisation in the CoinGecko catalogue. It is a token issued on the Stellar network, not a coin with a chain of its own. Its contract on that network is CAS3J7GYLGXMF6TDJBBYYSE3HQ6BBSMLNUQ34T6TZMYMW2EVH34XOWMA. CoinGecko lists it under smart contract platforms, layer 1 chains and real-world assets (RWA).

Project description from CoinGecko

Stellar is an open-source, decentralized network co-founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim to facilitate the fast and low-cost transfer of value across different currencies and assets globally. Managed by the non-profit Stellar Development Foundation, the project serves as a global infrastructure that connects banks, payment systems, and individuals to expand financial access to underserved populations. Its main value proposition lies in providing a bridge between traditional money and digital networks through the use of Anchors, which are trusted entities that hold deposits and issue credits on the ledger. The network operates using the Stellar Consensus Protocol and a Federated Byzantine Agreement, where nodes choose trusted sets of other nodes to agree on the state of the ledger. This system ensures high throughput and fast finality, where transactions are considered permanent and irreversible within seconds. Key features include a built-in distributed exchange for trading assets without intermediaries and the Soroban platform for developing smart contracts. Users can also utilize the network for tokenizing real-world assets or accessing decentralized finance services like peer-to-peer lending. Stellar's native token, XLM, is essential for maintaining network integrity by acting as an intermediary to find efficient exchange paths and preventing spam through small transaction fees and minimum account balance requirements. Unlike many other digital assets, the network has no inflation because the community voted to disable the automatic creation of new tokens. While the project received early funding from the payments company Stripe, it is now sustained by a global community of validators and developers rather than traditional venture capital.

Four steps: open an account with a provider authorised to operate in Spain, verify your identity, deposit euros by SEPA transfer and buy Stellar in the matching pair. If you plan to hold for a long time, consider withdrawing to a wallet you control: moving your coins to your own custody is not a sale, so it is not taxed. Selling Stellar at a profit is, and you can work out how much.

Why you will not find a price prediction here

There is no method that reliably predicts the price of a cryptocurrency. It depends on regulation, on adoption, on interest rates, on the decisions of a handful of very large firms and on market sentiment — none of which follows from today's price. A figure twelve months out would not be analysis: it would be an invented number that looks like data.

What you can look at is right above, and it is verifiable: the all-time high and low with their dates, how far away each one is and the recent path. With that you decide for yourself, which is rather more than a figure with nothing behind it gives you.

This page is not investment advice. Cryptocurrencies are a volatile asset and are not covered by any deposit guarantee scheme: you can lose all the money you put in. Read up and decide for yourself.
